My name is Patrick Plomp. Since 1979, I have been collecting historical paper money and value-bearing documents from and around the Netherlands. What started as a passion grew into deep expertise. My interest goes beyond the banknotes themselves—I am especially fascinated by the stories behind them.
Over the past decades, I have served as chairman, secretary, and editor of the Dutch chapter of the International Banknote Society, as well as an international Regional Director. My knowledge is built on many years of research in major museum collections and by being a point of contact for collectors’ questions about paper money. In 2029, I will celebrate my 50th anniversary as a collector. I have regularly shared my knowledge through lectures, publications, and several catalogs, including two comprehensive works on Dutch paper money (1573–present), including issues for overseas territories.
I also recently contributed to a publication about the Netherlands Trading Society and its issues in Asia. My work is based on years of study, collaboration with specialists, and a continuous curiosity about this fascinating field of collecting.
Receiving questions is a source of inspiration for me. My motto is: You can’t know everything. It is precisely through questions that my research drive is fueled; they spark new searches and expand my knowledge. I therefore greatly appreciate receiving questions!
